Good afternoon, Mighty Oak families! This week is School Lunch Hero week to acknowledge our nutrition professionals for taking care of our students and making sure they provide food every morning and at lunch so they are ready to learn. Thank you to our nutrition staff! 

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week! A big shout out to our teachers who deserve to be recognized for their hard work and dedication. Please make sure to send them a nice message of appreciation. Thank you to our PTSO for providing treats and goodies to show some love to our teachers and staff next week!

CAASPP: We just finished up ELA and tomorrow, May 3rd, will be the start of Math testing. Students need to bring their CHARGED district issued Chromebook to school. Make sure your kids are well rested and ready for testing!

Testing will continue through May 15th. Click here for our CAASPP calendar, we will be following a block schedule on some days to accommodate testing. Students can access practice tests by clicking on this linkwww.caaspp.org/practice-and-training/index.html. Students can bring a snack to enjoy during break time.

8th Grade Discovery Kingdom Field Trip: Tomorrow, May 3rd,  is the last day to turn in your permission slips and payments! The 8th grade Six Flags Discovery Kingdom trip will be on Tuesday, June 11th. The cost of the trip is $95 per student or $58 w/season pass.Your ticket includes park admission, transportation, and one meal deal package (1 meal voucher, 1 snack voucher and 1 drink voucher). Field trip packets are available in the main office and our website or you can click this link to print and submit. Submit both permission slips and payments (cash or money order only) to Ms. Sierra in the main office by tomorrow. Parents if you are interested in being a chaperone please email Ms. Payne at Michele-payne@scusd.edu.  

Attention 8th Grade Speakers: We are looking for a speaker for this year’s 8th grade promotion ceremony. Any interested 8th grade students will have an opportunity to deliver this year’s speech. We will choose one applicant to deliver a speech at promotion. Any student who would like a chance to participate will need to turn in a printed copy of an original speech to Mr. Mitchell (in his box in the office or to room 212) by 4th period on Monday, May 13th. Please click on this link for all of the necessary information about what their speech should include.

Seeking National Anthem Singer for Promotion: Attention 8th grade singers! We are looking for a student to sing the national anthem at this year’s promotion ceremony. Auditions will take place during lunch on Tuesday, May 14th in room 112. See Ms. B in the main office to sign up for an audition slot PRIOR to audition day.

Current 7th Graders- Course Selection Sheet for 8th Grade: Current 7th graders, it’s time to choose your elective for next year! Make sure to talk with your parents before submitting your form. Can’t decide…check out the Electives Information sheet or reach out to a teacher to learn more about a class and find out if you need to submit an application. Forms are due by Friday, May 17th. Link to the course selection form and link to the electives descriptions. 

Healthy Youth Act: 7th grade parents, the California Healthy Youth Act requires that comprehensive sexual health education and HIV prevention education be provided to students at least once in middle school and once in high school, starting in 7th grade. Our 7th grade science teachers will be covering this curriculum prior to the end of the year. They will be distributing a letter for students to take home. 7th Grade Picnic: Parents, today, 7th grade Science teachers passed out permission slips to all 7th graders for the picnic at McKinley park on the last day of school. All of the forms need to be signed by you and are due by Friday, May 24th. 7th grade parents, we are in need of chaperones for this picnic who can help out from 9 am-noon on June 13th. Please contact our office manager at Braunwyn-Juhlin@scusd.edu if you are willing to help us out or if you have any questions.

Yearbook Waitlist: Here is a link to enter your name on the yearbook waitlist if you forgot to purchase one and are still interested in having one.

End of the Year Participation Requirements: Participation in end of the year activities is a privilege earned in recognition and celebration of student achievement. Students must meet these requirements in order to participate. Here is a link to the requirements for participation in end of the year festivities. Please talk to your children and remind them to make positive decisions and stay focused through the end!

Open House: Mark your calendar, Open House will be on  Tuesday, May 21st from 5:30-6:30 pm. We will start with brief announcements at the stage outside of the gym. Food trucks will be available prior to the event so you can spend the evening with us without having to cook! We invite you to stay after Open House to enjoy our band concert starting at 6:30 pm.
