We are looking for speakers for this year’s promotion ceremony. Any eighth-grade student participating in the ceremony will have an opportunity to deliver this year’s speech. We will choose one speaker in addition to the class president. Any student who would like a chance to participate must turn in an original speech to Mr. Mitchell by fourth period on Monday, May 19. You may hand deliver your speech or put it in Mr. Mitchell’s box in the office. Students chosen as finalists will then deliver their speech for a judge’s panel after school on Thursday, May 22. All speeches considered must meet the following criteria:

• Your speech must address the theme of “Miwok Middle School has inspired me to be…”
• Your speech needs to be no longer than five minutes
• You must write your own speech—does not need to be memorized

Here is what you can include in your speech:

• Recall your fond memories of the past two years
• Give your listeners an idea of what it means to be a part of the “Pride of the City”
• Tell how Miwok Middle School has prepared you for High School and beyond
• What your legacy to Miwok Middle School and the community will be
• Be yourself, but relate to all of the students, teachers, and parents who want to reminisce with you.
